http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/20/the-readers-view/
Filed under: Odds and ends, TUAW BusinessWelcome to The Reader's View, a new weekly TUAW column that will feature insightful and well-written commentary by you -- our readers.
The comments are the one place where our readers can get on their virtual soapboxes and tell the world what they're thinking. Not all comments are created equal, however, and we want to recognize and celebrate the ones that rise above the rest by showing thought, knowledge, and constructive/considerate feedback. Enjoy this week's cream of the crop, and remember that you also have the opportunity to have your comments showcased here.
First, our giveaway of a limited edition set of Beatles MusicSkins required that readers leave a comment telling us who their favorite Beatle was. This, of course, brought up some fun memories and commentary from kathycorby: "Bet I'm one of the few who saw the Beatles in person, [...]

3) Flickr Find: Fan-made imaginary covers for Steve Jobs' biography

Flickr member flypigs has made this series of six cover mock-ups for the rumored forthcoming Steve Jobs autobiography. They're all pretty cool, and if you look at the notes for each photo you'll see that flypigs has put a little research into it. For Steve Jobs: The Man Who Makes It A Different Place, flypigs stated: "After searching "Walter Isaacson" on Amazon.com, you will find almost all his books share the same layout of cover design -- a big title on the top, a highly visible "Walter Isaacson" on the bottom, and a huge famous face in the center."
Personally, my favorite is Connecting The Dots. It uses a photograph by Diana Walker called STEVE JOBS AT HOME IN 1982. Steve Jobs said of the photo: "This was a very typical time. I was single. All you needed was a cup of tea, a light, and your stereo, you know, and that's what I had." I love the layout of the [...]

4) Couple marries at 5th Avenue Apple Store on Valentine's Day

We've seen robberies at Apple Stores before, we've seen kids rapping and we've even seen death threats, but I don't know that I've ever heard of a wedding in an Apple Store. That's what newlyweds Ya Ting Li and Joshua Li decided to do at midnight in the Fifth Avenue Apple Store on Valentine's Day -- right there among the iMacs and Macbooks, they got their wedding officiated by a turtlenecked Steve Jobs stand-in.
The rings came in on an original iPod, and the cards and decorations were Apple-themed as well (one says "I love you more than this" with a picture of an iPhone on it). Why did they choose to have their wedding in an Apple temple? The couple even met at an Apple Store. We don't know the details of that, but we'd like to think their eyes found each other over a 17" MacBook Pro.
Very cute. Congrats to the happy couple -- [...]

5) Ahoy! Celebrity Cruise Lines welcomes an Apple Store on board

Filed under: Retail, Cult of Mac, Odds and ends, AppleHaving withdrawal from all things Mac while on a sea voyage? Here's some future therapy. The Celebrity Cruise ship company has announced a new Internet Cafe on the new 2,850 passenger Celebrity Eclipse which sets sail in April. The iLounge, as Celebrity has named it, will include a mini Apple Store where passengers can buy MacBooks, iPods and other accessories.
Passengers will also be able to sign up for courses in iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb. Two other new ships are coming on line in 2011 and 2012, and both will have the iLounge aboard.
Celebrity operates ships that cruise to Alaska, The Caribbean, Europe, South America, Canada and New England.
This isn't the first time Macs have gone to sea. Back in 2008 we reported on Macs being installed on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for passenger use. Macs are also showing up in hotels [...]

6) Gameloft says they've got iPhone locked down
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/20/gameloft-says-theyve-got-iphone-locked-down/
Filed under: iTS, Software, iTunes, Developer, iPhone, App Store
Gameloft is one of the bigger iPhone-specific (or at least mobile-specific) game developers out there, and in fact they're so big, they tell Mobile Entertainment that they're not scared of their development partner Ubisoft and other big game developers headed to the iPhone. Ubisoft developed the most recent Assassin's Creed game for the iPhone, but Gameloft developed the first, and Gameloft's Gonzague de Vallois says that their game had better ratings and sales.
To a certain extent, yes, the App Store creates a level playing field for game developers, and allows companies even smaller than Gameloft to get their games out to a mass audience and gain a following based simply on gameplay, not necessarily marketing or other factors. But despite Gameloft's bragging, some of the most popular titles on the App Store, from Rock [...]
