1) Apple posts two new iPhone ads
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/22/apple-posts-two-new-iphone-ads/

Filed under: iPhone, App StoreApple has posted two new iPhone ads tonight. Both ads seem to target Joe Average and spotlight situations we find ourselves in every day.

The first, called "First Steps," targets moms and grandparents who want to show/never miss a single moment of the new tyke's life. The mom uses the iPhone 3GS to record her son's first steps, sends the video file as a MMS, and then starts a conference call with the grandparents to talk about the video. The ad ends with the mom saying "We would never have shared all that without the iPhone."

The second ad is titled "On Hold" and presents a situation we're all too familiar with. A man calls 1-800-204-7450 and is put on hold (before you try, I already called the number. A voicemail answers that says "At the tone, please record your message." I didn't leave one). The man then checks his email, pays a credit card bill, buys [...]

2) Apple's 7 commandments of app sex?
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/21/apples-7-commandments-of-app-sex/

Jon Atherton at Chillifresh, the app developer of Wobble, has posted what he says are Apple's new rules regarding sexual content in an iPhone app:

I have spoken with Apple, and the following are the new rules:

No images of women in bikinis (Ice skating tights are not OK either)
No images of men in bikinis! (I didn't ask about Ice Skating tights for men)
No skin (he seriously said this) (I asked if a Burqa was OK, and the Apple guy got angry)
No silhouettes that indicate that Wobble can be used for wobbling boobs
No sexual connotations or innuendo: boobs, babes, booty, sex - all banned
Nothing that can be sexually arousing!!
No apps will be approved that in any way imply sexual content (not sure how Playboy is still in the store, but ...)

Keep in mind that these rules have not been verified or posted by Apple, and Atherton has been on a roll [...]

4) Macworld Expo: Podcaster rogues' gallery
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/21/macworld-expo-podcaster-rogues-gallery/

Filed under: Macworld, Cult of Mac, PodcastingThey're the voices you hear coming out of your computer and your iPhone -- you know, the ones that tell you what's coming soon and why you might want to save up for future purchases. Yes, contrary to what you might have guessed, podcasters have faces to go with those voices; we showcased three of our favorites in our livecasting sessions from Macworld Expo, and the clips are reproduced in the second half of this post.

Our three victims visitors deliver distinctive voices on Apple news and the Mac/iPhone community. First up, Shawn King of Your Mac Life, who graded the expo from his 13-year perspective as an Internet broadcaster. Second, the maven of daily Mac news (and a TUAW contributor), Ken Ray of Mac OS Ken. Last, friend to novice Macheads everywhere, Victor Cajiao of Typical Mac User. Enjoy!

5) Glass stair from Apple Fifth Ave spiral staircase on eBay
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/21/glass-stair-from-apple-fifth-ave-spiral-staircase-on-ebay/

Filed under: Retail, Cult of Mac
So here's one for the hardcore Apple fan: you can own a supposed piece of the staircase from the Fifth Avenue Apple retail store in New York. eBay seller heylookitskibbe is auctioning the stair for a starting bid of $700 with a Buy It Now price of $2500. Though he doesn't identify himself as an Apple employee, he said he picked up the stair "before it could be thrown out over a year ago" after it had to be replaced when a customer dropped a Snapple bottle on it and cracked it.

The seller says the stair is a "collectible" and could be used as a coffee table if you get some cinder blocks. He also states that "I know for a fact that only three of them exist outside of the retail stores' circulation, and this is one of [...]

6) Analysis: U.S. pre-orders for Wi-Fi iPad likely to begin this week
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/21/rumor-u-s-pre-orders-for-wi-fi-ipad-to-begin-this-week/

Filed under: Rumors, iPadIf you're ready to buy that Wi-Fi iPad, then get your credit card out of your wallet and start practicing your fastest clicking and typing techniques. According to a rumor on iPad / iPhone site AppAdvice, a "reliable source" has told them that Apple will begin pre-sales of the Wi-Fi iPad as soon as Thursday, February 25.

As noted on 9 to 5 Mac, Apple traditionally begins selling new products like iPhones or iPods on Fridays. The closest Friday that is approximately 60 days after the iPad announcement on January 27th is March 26th, 2010. If Apple decides to take pre-sale orders of the device online for express delivery on March 26th, they would probably do this about a month in advance in order to better judge the demand for the product.

The iPad must pass muster with the FCC before it can be offered for sale in the U.S., so if this rumor is true we'd expect to [...]

7) 13 new countries added to the App Store
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/21/13-new-countries-added-to-the-app-store/

Filed under: App StoreLast week, Apple announced through the iPhone Developer News feed that the iTunes App Store is now supported in 13 additional countries:

"You can now distribute your apps to more customers with the addition of App Store support in Armenia, Botswana, Bulgaria, Jordan, Kenya, Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, Tunisia, and Uganda."

Unless an app has been set to "sell in new territories," developers will need to update their iTunes Connect preferences before their products will be available in the latest batch of added countries. If your apps already have the "sell in new territories" option checked, you're good to go.TUAW13 new countries added to the App Store originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Sun, 21 Feb 2010 10:30:00 EST.
